After discussing this issue for a few days, we’ve decided not to release softsubs of our hardsub releases. This is decision has been influenced by a few things, one of them the input of you guys, the viewers of our fansubs.
1. Altering of Our Work
Fansubs is a double edge sword. In one way its illegal and we do not own the footage, but in another way its legal in the sense that we OWN the translations. The translations are our own intellectual property and thus we own them. After reading some suggestions of people saying that they’re editable it makes us worry. Our fansubs are made just for viewing pleasure, not for altering or editing. Someone going in and altering our hard work bothers us and brings us to our next reason as to why we will not release softsubs
2. Uploading to Stream Sites and Crediting
Since we do not want our hardsubs uploaded, we do not want our softsubs uploaded. This is due to many reasons, mainly because we do not own the footage and by uploading the footage to stream sites, attention is brought to us who mass distro the footage via hardsubs.
By uploading softsubs to stream sites as if we hardsubbed that episode an attracts attention to us. Not only that, people who alter or edit subs may take our sub groups names out of the file and claim it as their own work.
This is what worries us the most. Someone taking our work and claiming it as our own. This especially goes for sites like Crunchyroll and Veoh, in which this goes on all the time and we have no power in stopping them or taking them down. We have to bite the bullet, but we can avoid it by not uploading them.
And so this is the two main reasons why we will not upload our softsubs. We are not doing this to punish you guys but because we value our work and do not want to see our work butchered or stolen. We know there are many of you who mean well, but there is just a few that don’t and spoil it for the rest of you. Trust me, as a drama watcher I enjoy softsubs too because I can turn them off, the quality isn’t affected due to re compression, and I tend to screencap… but since this is our group’s intellectual work, we want to protect it.
So we will not offer softsubs, we are sorry to those who had hopped for a softsub release from us, but if you be patient, we usually will have Yasuko to Kenji out by Thursday before the next episode. We may not be fast like an anime subber, but we work hard to get it out as fast as possible.
Thanks for your consideration and continued support
